Reflections

I was quite surprised today when one student came to me and said, "Mr Lee, i read your blog everyday... why so long never update?" haha.. one of the main reasons i blogged is just to keep track of my life as a teacher (from march last year to now)...also to post some memorable fotos...it's quite typical and not spectacular...but I'm glad people came and look at my blog.

Anyway, lately being doing some personal reflection now, especially as a teacher... some students already pointed out the difference in my life, last year and this year. 2 days ago, what a student said struck me, "Mr Lee... why you seldom come to canteen to chat with us nowadays." It struck me because as it made me realise my life has changed...

Last year: a beginning teacher. Less workload and responsibilities (not like most schools) ... so I have more time. Sit and chat with students during canteen breaks, talk with them...conduct remedial training for those who wanna learn, play badminton, chess with students etc ... quite fun! I have great and wonderful senior teachers to teach me the ropes too. As such, I can blog almost every other day. Lots of time for reflection. Those who know me then can testify for that.

This year: lots more commitment...in fact, i think i think the workload has more than doubled: more marking, more administration (committees, PSL, department stuffs, school administration)...in fact there seem to be non stop admin and work..admin and work... it has been a blessing that the classes i teach are generally good classes (who hands in home work on time). Thus, it really lightens my workload. Really hope for a break soon, and looking forward to Chinese new year. Seldom hang out the canteen or other places in school (unless lunch time or usual 9am break with some good colleagues of mine) Hopefully things will be better the near future, and looking forward to play badminton and chess with my students regularly as in the past.

Anyway some reflections so far for my classes i teach:
101: It's sad that math is always the last lesson for this class, for i can see that they are tired throughout almost all my math lesson. However, they should be grateful for the fact that by the time i teach them a particular topic, I will be super experienced in explaining the concepts clearly, since I would have done that for my other classes. Nice class overall. 100% homework attendance and always on time. Keep up the good work!
102: Best decorated year 1 class. Quiet and attentive in my lesson, but can be very united and in one spirit. (impressive cheering you all got yesterday during IP). Cute goodbye greeting (Thank you Mr Lee. Good bye Mr Lee. See you tmr Mr Lee. Don't shout so loud Mr Lee. Drink more water Mr Lee. May God bless you Mr Lee.)
103: A quiet and well behaved class, but their form teacher said coz I don't know their true colors yet. Haha...nevertheless fun to be teaching them. 100% homework attendance and always on time too.
104: Noisiest of my 4 classes (even the students themselves noe)..but nevertheless dynamic and full of zeal. Potential to grow to become a strong united class (coz their numbers are small and they are very similar in character wise)...but they guys and girls must learn to work well with each other.

That's about it so far... hope to update more the classes in time to come.
