The Morals in Blogging
Today went to a talk on Cyber Awareness by Touch Community Services together with the Year 1 and Year 2s in my school.
The video shown is really funny, with 2 case scenerios. The first scenerio was about a girl wanting to blog nasty things about her classmate as an act of revenge, so that the whole school would make fun of her. The 2nd case scenerio is about a student addicted to computer gaming, and thus neglecting his students. Though presented in a light manner, the stories portrayed has some moral issues at hand.
Firstly, using blog as an act of revenge. I have read too many students' blog to know that this is so common, but not to the extent of delibrately hurting other people. Many students write about "Warnings" to other classmates to ask them stop what they are doing on their blogs. However, I feel that their intention is more of venting of fustration rather than intentionally hurting others. Even though no names are called, some closer friends could pinpoint who the person highlighted is.
The lines drawn is really fuzzy in this sense. However, as what the speakers said, I think the bottom line drawn is really that blogs should be used to encourage, entertain (not in other people's expense though) and also to edify. Don't you think so?
