Growing pains

Whether be in as an occupation, or ministry in church, or as a friend, I've been with youths all these while. Upon reflection, I've been talking to them, playing with them... like them a lot, and being liked too (or at least I hope...haha). Thus there many times that I'm like a go-between for both parents and teenagers. I can see that many parents nowadays fear from the widening gap between themselves and their children. And I'm in the stage in life when I can still relate to their children as I'm not much older than many of them. I could talk to them, and help them analyse decisions. (i'm a logical person), whereas most youths I knew complain that their parents either nagged at them or scold them a lot.

One day as I relate this to my former teacher (who is a mother of 3 children), she asked, "You can be logically analysing to them coz they are not your own children. You are a lesser stakeholder than their parents, isnt it? Ask yourself, can you be so logical if they are your OWN children, you know that they have started to gone astray, and yet you couldnt do anything to help them. How would you feel, and how would you have reacted?

I was stumped...

  • nah,, again she is speaking from experience.

experience beats logic in many ways it seems, esp in relationships like these.

  • well your teacher is correct. I guess it is always easier to judge and analyse the situation from the third person point of view.
